Carl Scott Carrington The San Diego Union-Tribune 1994 Page: B-4 Subjects: Region: Pacific Rim; Southern California Obituary: A rosary for retired Navy Chief Warrant Officer Carl S. Carrington, 89, of East San Diego, will be recited at 7 tonight in Goodbody Mortuary. A Mass will be said at noon tomorrow in Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church. Cremation was planned, with ashes to be scattered at sea. He died Sunday in a hospital. Mr. Carrington, a native of Prescott, Ark., was a resident of the county for 70 years and serving in the Navy from 1919 to 1946. He also was a carpenter's foreman with Trepte Construction for 25 years and was a member of Elks Lodge 168, Carpenters Local 505, American Legion Post 1000 and the Fleet Reserve Association. Survivors include his wife, Maria; a son, William of San Diego; five stepchildren; and three grandchildren. |

Green Carrington which occurred at their home last night. The little child fell into a vessel of boiling water about a week ago and received burns which caused its death. | After a lingering illness caused by
paralysis, J. G. Carrington, aged 79 years, died at his home here this
morning at 2:15. Funeral services and interment will be at De Ann
Cemetery tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Theo.
F. Hall of this city and Masonic fraternity. The deceased is survived by his widow , seven sons, John, Jim, Sid, Tad, Carl, Theodore and Bartley; two daughters, Annie Laura and Gertrude. The only child who will not be here for the funeral is Carl, who is a member of the Navy and at present is stationed at Newport, Rhode Island, the other children residing in Prescott. M. Carrington Died Here Sunday...John M. Carrington, aged 62, died here
yesterday afternoon at one o'clock at the family residence on East Front
street as the rusult of becoming overheated while working several days ago.
For the past day or two it was thought that his condition was improving.
He had been confined to his bed until yesterday when he got up to sit on the
front porch, where he was found dead about one o' clock by members of the
family. Funeral service were held at the family residence this afternoon
at three o'clock by Rev. Harmon B. Ramsay with Rev. Fred G. Roebuck and R. A.
Highsmith assisting. Burial was in De Ann Cemetery. Pall Bearers
were: Doc Durham, Joe R. Hamilton, H. A. Loomis, Jim Cole, Adam Guthrie
and G. W. Allspaugh. Honory pall bearers were: John A. Davis, E.
P. Hale, Ira Gee, W. V. Tompkins, Horace Cabe, Bob Hitt, Mr. Vanscoy, E. H.
Weaver, T. E. Logan, Charlie Niemeyer and Joe A. Bailey. Besides
Mrs. Carrington, The deceased is survived by four daughters, Mrs. W. P.
Cummings, Mrs. Vernon Fore, Mrs. Sidney Parker Davis and Miss Ruth Carrington,
all of Prescott, and three brothers, Jim and Sid of Prescott, and Tad of
Wewoka, Oklahoma.

| Josephine H. Bemis, 93, of Prescott died Tuesday, November 15, 1999, at her
home. Mrs. Bemis was born September 22, 1906, in Clarendon to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hardy. She moved to Prescott at the age of 5. Mrs. Bemis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Prescott and for many years was secretary to the superintendent of Prescott Schools. She was preceded in death by Leon Carrington and J. H. Bemis. Survivors include one son, Ralph H. Carrington of Tyler, Texas, USA, USA, daughter and son-in-law, Jo and R.C. Beaver of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Jennifer Carrington of Tyler, Texas, USA, USA, Elizabeth Campos and husband J.C. of Palestine, Texas, USA, USA, Hardey Beaver and wife Carolyn of Baton Rouge, La., and Joe Beaver of Napa, Calif.; four great grandchildren, Rachel and Chris Beaver of Baton Rouge, La., and Polly and Joshua Campos of Palestine, Texas, USA, USA; three stepchildren, James H. | Ruth C. Young, 85, of Malvern died Saturday, January 1, 2000, in Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Mrs. Young was born February 14, 1914, in Prescott to John Montgomery and Anna Helena Monson Carrington. She was reared and educated in Prescott. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Malvern, the P.E.O., and the First United Methodist Church Women's Circle. She was a homemaker and the widow of Tom Rose Young, who died in 1975. They were married on March 14, 1941, in Prescott. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Cummings, Thalia Fore, and Forrest Davis, all of Prescott. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Tom R. "Tommy" and Judy E. Young of Malvern; Cary E. and Pamela King of Pine Bluff and Robert G. and Judy S. Young of Benton; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday, January 3, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist in Marvern with Rev. Roy P. Smith officiating. Burial was in Shadowlawn Cemetery in Malvern under the direction of Regency Funeral Home of Malvern. Pallbearers were Rob Young, Ross Young, Will Young, Paul Young, Jr., Jim Davis and Damon McKelvy. Texas, USA, USA, died Friday, May 1, 2000. Mr. Carrington was born October 19, 1928, in Prescott to Leon and Josephine Carrington. He was a textbook representative for Charles E. Merrill Publishing Co. He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Carrington was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Tyler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Jo Carrington. Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer Ann Carrington of Tyler and Elizabeth and Julian Campos of Palestine, Texas, USA; a sister and brother-in-law, Jo and R.C. Beaver of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Joshua Carrington Campos of Palestine and Polly Jennifer Campos of Palestine; nephews, Dr. William Hardey Beaver of Baton Rouge, La., and Joe Beaver of San Francisco, Calif., three cousins, Jim Gordon of Sacramento, Calif., Laura Jo Keaton of Camden and Teeny McKinney of Texarkana. Montie Ray Cole, Sr., 93, of Brenham died Feb. 12, 2005 in Trinity Medical
Center in Brenham. Mr. Cole was born Feb. 25, 1911 in Brady, Texas, USA to Bert and Rosie Stanley Cole. On Dec. 25, 1935, he was married to Katie Edna Lasnford in Brenham Christian Church. In 1937, Mr. Cole began working for Brenham Cotton Mill, later known as Brentex Mills. He retired in 1976 as superintendent of weaving. After retirement he had his own lawnmower repair service. Mr. Cole was a member of First Christian Church in Brenham. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Montie Jr. and Mary Cole of Brenham; daughter Barbara Darilek of Houston; grandchildren Raymond Darilek Jr. and fiance' Amanda of Houston and Sherri Jordan of Houston; great-grandchildren, Chris Moss and wife Samantha of Jacksonville, N.C. and Jesse Jordan and special friend Kelly of Houston; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Martha Lanford of Brenham, Charles Lanford of San Antonio, John Marin of Martinez, Calif., Delores Dyson of Brenham and Marie Heuvel of Brenham; special nieces, Sandra Carter and Mary Lou Thomas of Oklahoma City; and special friend, Marvin Breneman of Brenham. | Passionate patriot, athlete, cook, sportsman, loyal friend, country music lover, Charles Dale "Chuck" Devereaux was born on August 29, 1924, in Diboll, Texas, USA, to Clara Tillis Powell and Jim Bill Devereaux. After a struggle of epic proportions with colon and liver cancer, on October 15, 2008, Chuck relinquished this life for a pain-free one with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. At age 17, he joined the United States Air Force, serving in World War II as a B-7 pilot and becoming a trainer for Chinese pilots. On discharge, he attended and graduated from Baylor University, becoming an All-Southwest Conference athlete in both basketball and baseball, and playing in Madison Square Garden for the national basketball championship. He subsequently became Baylor's baseball coach and also coached and managed semi-pro baseball clubs into national rankings. Later , while involved in the hospitality industries and real estate development, Chuck pursued his love of the out-of-doors as an avid hunter and fisherman, by raising and racing quarter horses with his dear friend Lester Goodson, and by engaging in golf and skeet shooting at the championship levels. Preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Chuck is survived by his wife of 58 years, Laurie, daughter Debbie Edmondson and husband Michael, daughter Mimi and husband Ron Davis, grandchildren Michelle Davis, Jerry Futch, Sunni Fleetwood, Misti Daniel and husband Shane, Carver Edmondson, Ryan Mayorga and husband Jacob and Ivy Cullens and husband Allen. Great-grandchildren are Morgan and Cody Davis, Jessie Skinner, Lexie Edmondson, Jordan and Sadie Hope Mayorga, and Tristan Cullens. A brother, Frank Devereaux and wife Johnnie also survive. Visitation will be held at Metcalf Funeral Home on October 16, 2008o, from 6 to 8 p.m. Services officiated by Dr. Charles Walton and Dr. Cliff Herrington will be held in the Metcalf Chapel on October 17, 2008, at 10 a.m. with interment to follow immediately at Conroe Memorial Cemetery. Burial will be in the Prairie Lea Cemetery. The Brenham Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. James W. Willingham of Pasadena, Mrs. George McGray of Orange and Mrs. Freddie Mitchell of Houston, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one sister Mrs. Martha Lueck of Brenham. Two sons died in infancy, and one brother and one sister also preceded her in death. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. She was confirmed in the same church in April 1904. She was educated in Berlin school. She was married to William Schaefer Sept. 2, 1907, in Galveston. He preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1929. A member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, she was a member of the Ladies' Aid Circle of the church, and also a member of the Home demonstration Club. |

Joseph B. Jackson, 55, of 4120 Worth Street, was shot and killed
Thursday night, the victim of a stray bullet fired during a one-sided
gun battle between four negroes, one of whom was shot five times in the
legs and thigh. Two negroes,
brothers, arrested early Friday morning by Capt. Leonard Park and
Detectives Will Fritz and Bob Jones, confessed to the shooting, the
officers said. The target of their
guns, according to a statement made to Captain Park, was Roscoe Goodall,
3320 Junius Street, who escaped unharmed, while his companion, O. D.
Washington, who resides on Cochran Street, was seriously wounded. The arrested
negroes declared that Goodall had shot and killed their brother several
months ago and that he had threatened to kill them.
The shooting
occurred in front of a lunch stand operated by Jackson at Swiss Avenue and
Hawkins Street. Jackson was standing in front of the place waiting
for a street car when the shooting started in the street. One bullet struck
Jackson in the left shoulder and ranged downward. He died in an
ambulance en route to Parkland hospital. The arrested
negroes told officers that they opened fire on Goodall at the same time
and that they did not know they killed Jackson until several hours later. Their pistols were
turned over to J. C. Gunning, chief of detectives. Goodall was
armed, police said. He told them, however, that he was unable to
return fire and escaped the bullets by dodging behind a telephone pole. Funeral arrangements for Jackson are pending the arrival of relatives from Lufkin, his former home. He is survived by his widow, three sons, and five daughters. His mother, several brothers and sisters reside at Lufkin. Jackson had resided in Dallas eight years and for the last five years had operated the lunch stand where he was killed. Pending arrangements, the body is at the Brewer Funeral Home. |

1904 in the Wesley community of Washington County, the daughter of Robert and Alvina Menn Maurer. She was baptized and
confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome by the Rev. J. Appel. She
was educated in the Wesley public school. On June 3, 1923, she was
married to Albert B. Schaefer.Mrs. Schaefer was a
homemaker. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran's Church of Prairie
Hill, where until illness prevented, she was active in Ladies Aid and the Mary
Martha Circle. Survivors include her
five daughters and sons-in-law; Pearlie Becker of Brenham, Ruby and William I.
Moore Jr., Annell and Judge R. Shern Smith, Doris Ann and Ed R. Lehmann, and
Gladiola (Gladys) Witherspoon, all of Houston; 12 grandchildren, Tommy and

Funeral services were held for Joy M. Ham Montgomery, 84, of Richards on Monday,
Mar. 24, at Richards Baptist Church in Richards with the Rev. Bob Berry and Rev.
Troy Winslett officiating. Interment was held at Union Grove (Pool) Cemetery. Mrs. Montgomery was born May 25, 1918, in Huntsville and passed away March 20, in Bryan. Like her husband, J.T. Montgomery, former principal of Conroe High School, Joy M. Ham Montgomery was a career school teacher in Conroe. In her early retired years in Richards, she was active in church work and historical and genealogical research. In her later years, after suffering a debilitating stroke, she showed her true grit, perseverance and determination by slowly learning how to read again. She then went on to read the Bible through seven times, an accomplishment she cherished and we all admired. For Joy Montgomery, having Christian faith and a great circle of friends and family was her life. She was a great listener and always had a friendly, loving smile and a warm hug for everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her and will forever be in our hearts. She is preceded in death by her husband, J. T. Montgomery and sister, Juanita Winslett. Tommy Gene Newman, 49, of Washington died Dec. 30, 2000 in
Brenham.
Mr. Newman was born July 31, 1951 in Brenham to George Tommy and
Louise Rogers Newman. He attended Brenham High School, Austin Machine
School, and Plaster Apprentice School.
On July 29, 1972, he married Gayle Koch in First Baptist Church
in Brenham.
Mr. Newman was employed at Fairbanks Plastering and was a member
of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gayle Newman of Washington; sons,
Kevin Gene Newman of Washington and Casey Alan Newman and special friend Chelsea
Naylor of Brenham; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Ray Averitt of

John Henry Rose, better known as Grandpa Rose, died Friday in the Eden Home for the Aged in New Braunfels after a short illness. He was 103 and would have celebrated in 104th birthday on June 25. Rose came to the United States from Germany at the age of 1a2 years to make his home with an uncle at Brenham. His first wife died after 17 years of marriage. They were the parents of seven children. After his second marriage he moved to Beasley with his wife and family in 1902. Mrs. Rose died in 1957 after the couple had been married for 59 years. She was in her late 90's. Mr. Rose moved to Rosenberg to make his home with a son, William Rose, who passed away in 1958. Grandpa Rose continued to make his home with his daughter-in-law at 1020 Seventh Street. He was a retired farmer. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville with Rev. Ed H. Weltge officiating. Survivors include two sons, Otto and Fred of Beasley; two granddaughters and four grandsons. Pall bearers were Rudolph Roesler, Albin Tielke, Henry Tielke, Willie Tielke, Henry Oberhoff, and John Oberhoff. Services were under the direction of Garmany and Company Funeral Directors. |

Henry Rose Celebrates
100th Birthday, June 25th On June 25, 1859 John Henry Rose was born in Germany. At the age of 12 years he came to America alone to live with an uncle. He landed at Galveston after having been on the water for nine weeks and it took him all day to travel to Brenham in Washington County to his uncle's home. He lived with them until he married at an early age. His first wife died after 17 years of marriage, leaving him with seven children, two of whom are still living. He later married Mrs. Minnie Ringner at Brenham and they moved to Fort Bend County to the Beasley community in 1902. Mrs. Rose lived until two years ago when she died in her late nineties at Needville. They were married 59 years. Mr. Rose was a farmer in the Beasley and Needville communities as long as his health permitted. After Mrs. Rose's death he came to Rosenberg to live with his son, Wm. Rose. After the younger Mr. Rose died on February 13, 1958 the elderly Mr. Rose continued to live at the home of his daughter-in-law, at 1020 Seventh St. In spite of his advanced age he gets around pretty well and reads his Bible daily and threads a needle without glasses. During the winter he pieced a quilt. He is a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church at Needville. For his 100th birthday celebration Thursday all of his children and grandchildren and a few friends were present. He has two sons, Fred and Otto Rose of Beasley, six grandchildren and one step-son. Theo Ringner of Needville, and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rose and her daughter-in-law, Mrs Vladik Walcik, planned the party in his honor. The pretty three-tiered birthday cake was baked by a grandson's wife, Mrs. Leroy Rose. It was topped with the numerals "100", denoting the long long years he has lived." She worked for Hermann Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Dr. Edwin E. Garret. She became Dr. Garret's personal scrub nurse during his eye surgeries, where she became versed and acquainted with many eye procedures. in death on Oct. 17, 1982. They were married for 10 years. She
then married Luther Spann in 1986. He preceded her in death in 1988
after two years of marriage. Mrs. Spann was
retired from Brentex Mills and a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Survivors include

| Burrell P. Smith died of hemorrage of the lungs on the 14th day of August 1859, at his residence in the town of Sherman, Grayson Co., Texas, USA. His death was sudden and unexpected to his relations and friends. He leaves a bereaved mother, wife and children. He was born October 25, 1823, in Wilson Co., Tenn. He studied the profession of law in Murfreesboro, in said State, was admitted to the bar, and in 1845, he emigrated to Texas and located in the town of Clarksville, Red River County, and commenced the practice of law. In 1846, when a call was made for volunteers to aid in the struggle with Mexico, he raised a company, was elected its captain, and with it, marched to the Rio Grande, participated in many of the stirring and warlike scenes along the line of the ememies' country. In 1849, he was elected by the voters of Red River Co. to represent them in the lower branch of the State Legislature. He served his term out and was a working energetic and faithful member. In 1851, he removed with his family to this place, and for many years actively and successfully devoted his time and talents to the practice of law. | |

Miss Frances Mildred Stoneham, 93 of Stoneham, went to be with her Lord on
Wednesday, Jan 24, 2001. Miss Stoneham died at 11:15 p.m. at her home in
Stoneham. She was born in Stoneham on Dec 12, 1907, the daughter of Thomas
Benton and Annie Crittenden Stoneham. A life long resident of Stoneham,
she was a graduate of Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville where she
received her Bachelor and Masters degrees and was a dedicated teacher and
librarian for 47 years in Grimes and Montgomery County school systems. She
retired in 1973 after 37 years as librarian at Travis Jr. High School in
Conroe. Miss Stoneham was a life long member of the Stoneham Methodist
Church and was a current member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and
the Grimes County Retired Teachers Assoc. She also served as a past
president of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Retired Teachers Assoc.
Miss Stoneham played a major role in the development of the Montgomery County
Library retiring in 1978 after 30 years of faithful service on its board. |

Willingham, 3606 Grover Street. Mr. Willingham, an administrator in the Strategic Air Command chief of chaplains' office, was reported in critical condition at County Hospital Thursday morning. | Cruiser policemen were pursuing Van Ness, who was wanted for questioning in connection with a theft at the Derby Service Station, Forty-second and E Streets. They said the fleeing auto, stolen earlier from Melvin Plotkin, 2305 Levenworth Street, reached speeds of 50 to 55 miles an hour during the chase. Station attendant George Harrison, 26 of 2448 Burt Street, told a reporter that Van Ness and a young woman drove into the station about 4:10 p. m. Van Ness waved him away when he approached the car, Mr. Harrison said.As Mr. Harrison went to service another car, Van Ness entered the station and the young woman got behind the wheel of their car, the attendant said, When Mr. Harrison went inside he found more than one hundred dollars missing from the cash drawer, he said. He took the license number of the couple's car as it pulled away and called the police. Cruiser Patrolman Earl Brailey and Joe Vicarro said the chase began when they spotted the car westbourn at Thirty-third and F Streets. Patrolman Brailey said he partially blocked the street with the cruiser, jumped out and tried to flag the car. He said the driver tried to run him down. The officers pursued in their cruiser, but said the car had opened a gap of four blocks when the accident happened. They said the car left 80 feet of skid marks before colliding with the Willingham vehicle | |

Schaefer Willingham was born February 27, 1914, in Salem, near Brenham,
Texas, USA, and died March 9, 2008 in Conroe, Texas, USA. She was baptized on
July 12, 1914, in Berlin Lutheran Church, Berlin, Texas, USA, and was confirmed
April 21, 1928, in Salem Lutheran Church. She married in Brenham,
Texas, USA on March 24, 1932, at the parsonage of the Giddings Memorial
Methodist Church by the Rev. J. V. Beglund to James Willie Willingham, who
preceded her in death December 27, 1988. She also was preceded in
death by both her parents, William and Louise Hold Schaefer; two brothers,
Milton and Adrian Schaefer; two sisters, Mildred (Dolly) McGray and Louise
Mitchell; and one great-grandson, Joshua Wilkerson. Irene Willingham, wife, mother, and homemaker, with little more than a sixth-grade education graduated from Hermann Hospital School of Practical Nursing, Houston, Texas, USA, on January 3, 1957, and was granted an LVN degree from the State of Texas. She worked for Hermann Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Dr. Edwin E. Garret. She became Dr. Garret's personal scrub nurse during his eye surgeries, where she became versed and acquainted with many eye procedures. Her working career was spent in Houston until she retired with her husband in Conroe, Texas, USA, in 1973. She is survived by her two sons, James Willingham, Jr. and wife Helen of Plano, Texas, USA, and Kenneth Willingham and wife Sandra, of Houston, Texas, USA; two daughters, Katherine Woerner and husband Howard , of Pontotoc, Texas, USA, and Joyce Jackson and husband Lynn, of Conroe; grandchildren and spouses, David and Rhonda Willingham of Lavon, Gary and Sandra Willingham, of The Woodlands, Alan and Mollie Jackson, of Plantersville, Ronald and Janet Jackson of Suffolk, Virginia, Kenneth Jr. and Andrea Willingham, of Houston, Brenna and Matthew Balboa of Kyle, Lynda and John Stowe, of Conroe, and Kendra Callahan of Houston. Irene is also survived by nine great grandchildren. Pallbears will be David Willingham, of Lavon, Gary Willingham, of the Woodlands, Alan Jackson, of Plantersville, Ronald Jackson, of Suffolk, Virginia, Kenneth Willingham, Jr. of Houston and Justin Randolph, of Conroe. WILLINGHAM, BAPTIST MISSIONARY, DIES SUNDAY Reverend Isaac Hugh Willingham, age 83, died at his home, 306 Potomac street in Marlin, at 1:30 o'clock Sunday morning following a prolonged illness which became more acute last November. He was born in Alabama, USA March 5, 1862, and moved with his parents to the Criswell community in Falls County when he was five years of age. All of his life has been devoted to Christian leadership work and as a Baptist minister he has held pulpit assignments in a number of different sections in Texas. For more than 60 years he has been active in religious work and has been county Missionary for the Baptist church in Falls county. He has been in Marlin for 23 years. Surviving are his wife and seven children: Four daughters, Mrs. Amy Stokes, Abilene; Mrs. Mattie Durham, Mart; Mrs. Elizabeth Patterson, Bryan; Mrs. Mary Jowers, St. Louis. Three sons, Isaac Willingham of the U.S.Navy presently listed as missing in action; J. B. Willingham, Lott; M.H.Turner, step-son, Tyler. Funeral services Monday afternoon, February 12th from the First Baptist Church at 4 o'clock. Conducted by Rev. J.D. Barnes of Valley Mills, assisted by Rev. W.O. Wright. Burial in Calvary cemetery. Willingham Dr. Welborn Kiefer Willingham, 78, of Salado, Texas, USA, died Saturday, January 13th, 2007 after a brief illness. Willingham, known as "Will" by his many friends, patients and colleagues, was born March 12th, 1928, in Fisher County, Texas, USA. He was the son of W.B. Willingham and Madge Eason Willingham. A 1949 graduate of Texas Tech University, Willingham received a Masters degree at The University of Texas and a Ph.D. at Tech. As an undergraduate, Willingham was sophomore class president, a member of and first pledge trainer of Saddle Tramps, Tech's spirit organization, and a member of Socii Fraternity which later became Sigma Nu. After a brief stint as an officer in the United States Air Force, from which he retired in later years as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Reserves, Willingham spent most of his working life in academia. He was a professor in the Department of Education at Texas Tech, an adjunct professor at Tech¹s medical school, and retired with the distinction of Professor Emeritus. A practicing psychologist, Willingham founded a counseling center in Lubbock, Texas, USA. He was an active member of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology, in which organization he was a delegate and leader for many years. He founded that association's Graduate Student Forum and served as its director, encouraging many young people in the profession. In recent years Willingham enjoyed his retirement, while overseeing his ranching interests in Fisher and Scurry Counties On August 14th, 1950, he married a Lubbock native, Maxine McCollum, following a campus romance. After his Air Force tour of duty, University of Texas studies and a brief period in Hale Center, Texas, USA, as the youngest school principal in the state at that time, they made their home in Lubbock, where they raised their family.. In 2006, they relocated to Salado, Texas, USA, where they had built a vacation home. Willingham¹s ancestors were early settlers in Salado. Will is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maxine; his three children: Sharon Willingham Harris of Garland, Dr. Douglas B. Willingham of Salado, and Sheila Willingham McBeth of Sarasota, Florida. He is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Private graveside services were held Monday, January 15th, 2007, at the Willingham Cemetery in Salado, Texas, USA, officiated by the Rev. Thomas A. Wallace, Rector of St. Luke¹s Episcopal Church, Belton, Texas, USA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one¹s charity of choice. A motorcycle rider killed here on Interstate 45 was identified Tuesday
as David Lynn Yohan of Huntsville. Witnesses said Yohan, 40, was northbound and
passing vehicles on the right shoulder, before he struck a sign at South
Loop 336 about 6 p.m. Monday. Note: The body was cremated and the ashes were scattered at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Alta Loma, Texas, USA at the gravesite of Mr. Yohan's grandparents Buster and Opal Jackson. |
